Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts. ~Florence Nightingale~
My life in nursing has been a canvas that I feel blessed to marvel at on a daily basis. There have been many different people who have made brush strokes on that canvas that I will forever be grateful to and experiences that have painted on different colors that I will never forget. The many colors and different strokes on my canvas reflect dedication, education, humbleness and love.
Dedication: My painting began when I made the commitment and dedicated myself to the nursing profession. As a nursing student I learned that dedication and hard work brought success and valuable lessons were taught. The same is true after school in the work force. You must be dedicated to your facility, department, fellow staff and patients. You must be dedicated to your values as an individual and live by the nursing code of ethics.
Education: My education throughout nursing school and my preceptorship is one aspect I will never take for granted. The knowledge and skills I learned will be passed on to other generations just like my instructors did for me. I will also dedicate myself to educating my patients and their families to live healthier lifestyles.
Humbleness: I have never been more humbled than I was throughout my experience in nursing school and progressing into my nursing career. I learned that when you are humbled you are at the best place you can be for yourself and for others. I will dedicate myself to humbleness daily to better benefit my patients while meeting them at there time of need and providing the best quality care possible.
Love: My love for nursing has grown more and more over my time spent learning more about this life long care that is such a blessing. I find so much love in every area of this profession. I love the respect behind being a nurse, the love I have for my co-workers, the love I have for my patients....I will always dedicate myself to a loving attitude toward my situation and fellow man.
